It’s a project of Adegga, the largest wine website review and sharing platform in Portugal.
Thanks a lot to Andre Ribeirinho, Daniel Matos and Andre Cid !
The concept and ideas:
A wine tasting in an informal setting with some of the best wines and producers from Portugal. The main lines are tasting, choosing & favorite and purchase for the interested !
So for me as wine professional and sommelier it was exceptional to see great concept like this based and aimed for the final consumer ! Since I use to go more in the traditional wine fairs most of the time reserved to wine business and professional, so really limit the marketing and force to a pre selection.
This Wine Market is really attending as I could see & note, main point is sharing time between the consumer & the producers were both are sharing experiences, knowledge and wine passion or looking to know more.
Also, the tables stretched along the wall, so the producers are standing in front of the tables and creating a better contact with the customers, a great social and sharing environment ! It opens up the wine world for the consumer, helping him to discover, that most of the time in other occasions could be intimidated , in an casual and easy way. They feel free and confortable, sharing with friends and others !
Back in time:
The first edition of Adegga Wine Market was representing 13 producers, 300 visitors, this year for the 4th Summer Edition they reached over 700 visitors, 300 different wines, 40 producers were present, over 900 glasses used to sip lovely wines.
Now and Winter – Summer :
It took place the 29th of June at the Hotel Florida, Marques de Pombal, Lisbon central.
Here is the link to the article about the Adegga Wine Market winter 2012 Edition:
To give you a clue about this unique and original wine event, I gave a challenge to a #winelover that came for first time, and who is supposed to be really picky on wine! I asked him before the event to find me a “bad” wine on the all range of products available to taste. After a bit over 8 hours of tasting he inclined himself in front of the selection of wine, work of the team and greatness!
Richness of Portugal
The winter edition was an outstanding event focusing on consumer with a selection of 40 portuguese producers among the bests of Portugal. The Adegga Wine Market gave me much more insights in the magic spectrum of Portuguese wines and port wines. And even more respect for a wonderful country where people live for their passion producing some incredible quality wines, defying any concurrence, I thing that nowadays Portuguese wines are the only ones left in the all Europe that can offer so much to the consumer, still working with over 250 indigenous grape varieties , and integrate also some of the most well known grapes all over the world. This peaceful country can offer you a large and magic wine range of top quality, without to much pretentions, for really under 10 euros! Name me a country even in the world that can offer you so much peaceful, wide and great wines, and I don’t talk about the food that is even flying over the sky.
This 20 to 30 lasts years, the wine industry has increased so high its quality in Portugal, thanks to so many people devoted and dedicated to preserve diversity, richness quality and traditions.
Good relations is key to success
Getting back to the Adegga Summer Wine Market – focusing surely more on to white wines due to the hot summer running in Portugal. Like the winter edition, this event is focusing on the consumer itself. And like I was saying on my article about the winter edition, it is so more joyful and good mood around than a professional wine fair.
This event is first of all to create more links and relations between the consumer and the producer, allowing the consumer to learn more, get confident about what he might taste and like, understand more ( yes this is very informative for the consumer) and can pair with food (sushi and seafood were available) , and also allowing the consumer to build up a shopping list with his favorite wines that he can keep home later for eventual future purchases, and last the consumer can buy the wines directly at the event!
For the producer, it is a good way to meet his “drinkers”, create relations, bring extra knowledge to the consumer and understand the needs and wishes from the consumer directly. Tables along the walls the producers need to stand ahead and the “fence” between the producer and consumer is almost broke already, getting them a bit closer.
This year as a project the Adegga team worked also with other people, to integrate an electronic system under the foot of the glass, testing this for first time, consumer could scan their glasses on each producer table they were visiting and later on receive by email all the informations about the wines they tasted, producers and where to buy the wines, a “All-in-One” solution to make life even easier for the consumer.
In the winter edition, a little extra was available to purchase for the consumer, the “Premium-Room” where they could enjoy crazy and insane line-ups of wines and port wines, for a little extra-fee, real wine geeks and passionated could get to taste wines worth a few thousands euros.
For the Summer Wine Market, the Adegga Team, created a selection, of wines, where you could get a taste of some of the top Portuguese red and white wines.
Vertical of Soalheiro, Redoma Reserva from Niepoort, Cortes de Cima, Quinta de Sant’Ana, Torre do Frade and many others…. Displaying a total of 34 different wines !
Here is my pick for the Adegga Selection on a previous article:
And as little extra, this year with this awesome hot summer, they created a new space the Dao Wine Bar, an outside terrasse where you could enjoy a top selection of some great wines from the Dao region, with some good lounge music, a good wineblogger Pingus Vinicus for serving and sharing his passion in a good mood.
A Wine Bar inside the Summer Wine Market devoted exclusively to wines of Dão! A space to live, discover, discuss and chat with a glass of wine in the company of the Dao group members and other passionate #daowinelover wines of this region of Portugal.
